Tony Tan Elected as President of Singapore

Singapore - Dr Tony Tan officially elected as President of Singapore for the upcoming 2011-2016 period. Through the general election Tony get a total of 744,397 votes or 35.19 percent. The silver-haired man will be the lead during the next six years, the lion country.


In his official announcement on Sunday (26/8), Tony Tan who is a former Deputy Prime Minister of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) is a thin win by 0.34 percent or 7269 votes to beat other candidates, Dr. Tan Cheng Bock. Former Member of Parliament and politicians PAP's got as many as 737,128 votes or 34.85 percent.

While the presidential candidates of opposition parties, namely: Tan Jee say won 25.04 percent of votes, then at four positions, namely: Tan Kin Lian at 4.91 percent. Recorded the total number of votes reached 2.11 million and nearly 600 thousand voice vote.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong issued a statement directly related to the election results. He guarantees and fully support the elected president and pledged to work together to face a number of challenges for the country in the future.

Singapore yesterday (08/27/2011) conduct a general election presidential candidate. Polling places on Saturday (27/8) was opened for the presidential elections in Singapore for the first time in 18 years. It is estimated that about 2.3 million Singaporeans are eligible to vote after a nine-day campaign period.
