Dash diet - The DASH diet was never intended for teen girls, but that doesn't mean it's ineffective.
Originally created to treat adults with high blood pressure, the Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet is showing new promise in reducing weight gain in teenage girls. The diet plan itself essentially cuts out red meat and many forms of carbohydrates, focusing on fruits, vegetables, lean meat and whole grains.
The DASH diet is the buzz going around. Now doctors are saying it may have beneficial health effects in young girls and help them safely lower their BMI index.
The same results were seen for girls consuming higher amounts of low-fat dairy products.”
We found that higher adherence to a DASH-style diet resulted in a consistently lower BMI between the ages of 9 and 19 years.
